The drop in temperature, and the central heating that follows, pulls moisture from your skin faster than you'd think. Tightness, flaking and dull patches are all signs your summer routine needs a rethink. The fix isn't a full overhaul; it's a few smart swaps.
Four autumn swaps
- Gel cleanser → cream or balm cleanser. Gentler on a compromised barrier, and it won't strip skin that's already drier.
- Lightweight lotion → a richer moisturiser. Look for ceramides, squalane or shea to lock hydration in overnight.
- Add a hydrating serum. Hyaluronic acid under your moisturiser gives skin water to hold onto.
- Ease off strong actives. If retinol or acids start to sting, reduce frequency and prioritise barrier repair first.
Don't drop the SPF
UV doesn't clock off in October. Keep a daily SPF in rotation, it's still the single best thing you can do for your skin.
